| چکیده | ||
| Despite their unique role in Iran’s translation and interpreting profession, sworn translators/interpreters have received little scholarly attention. This mixed-methods study investigated perceptions of professionalism among Iranian sworn translators/interpreters. To this end, 89 Iranian sworn translators/interpreters completed a questionnaire consisting of close-ended questions in the quantitative phase, of whom eight were subsequently interviewed to gain deeper insights into the initial quantitative findings. The findings showed a strong positive consensus among participants regarding their professional identity and status. They perceived their work as socially prestigious and distinct from unregulated translation practices due to their exclusive authority to provide legally valid translations and their responsibility for the accuracy and legal implications of their work. They also stressed the importance of complying with the ethical principles and acting proactively at work. While most of them expressed pride in their profession and satisfaction with diversity and the intellectual demands of their work, they also reported challenges such as bureaucratic obstacles, outdated procedures, and financial concerns. The findings also suggest ethical principles are central to professionalism among Iranian sworn translators. | ||
